Welcome to Coach Sam’s Virtual Playbook where ideas become our most trusted and valued friends.

Our ideas are unique to each of us, the DNA of our heart and mind. They are with us every day, keeping us company, inspiring us to move past our fears, inspiring us to Dream Big and then Dream Bigger, to have faith in who we are. As you explore the lessons in the Coach Sam’s What Do You With An Idea series, let the magic of your ideas, your dreams, take flight because your ideas will change the world.

And remember, your Coach Sam’s team is by your side, celebrating you and the magic of your ideas.

Hello Scholars!

To conjure something up, means to plan and prepare for it. Let’s face it, sometimes, you just have to make your own snack! Why not get creative?

In this virtual playbook, you’ll look at a very hungry caterpillar that found really yummy snacks along its route. Most of them were the best snacks found in nature. See what happens when he overdoes it!

The combinations of foods to snack on are endless!  Explore recipes and choose rather a snack is healthy-something you can eat all the time, or junky-something you should only have occasionally. Your body will surely thank you for being health conscious!

This Summer Snack lesson consists of:

  • Why Healthy Snacking is Important
  • “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Read Aloud
  • Two worksheets:
    • Storybook Writing
    • The Life Cycle of a Butterfly Activity Pack
  • Snack Challenge
  • Eric Carle’s Website

One sunny Sunday, the caterpillar was hatched out of a tiny egg. He was very hungry. On Monday, he ate through one apple; on Tuesday, he ate through three plums–and still he was hungry. When full at last, he made a cocoon around himself and went to sleep, to wake up a few weeks later wonderfully transformed into a butterfly!

The brilliantly innovative Eric Carle has dramatized the story of one of Nature’s commonest yet loveliest marvels, the metamorphosis of the butterfly. This book is sure to delight with it’s amazing art graphics!

Snack Recipe Challenge!!!

Snacks can be loads of fun, giving you a chance to create something quite tasty. For this challenge, find basic snacks that you already have at home and think of creative ways to jazz it up! Always ask an adult for permission to use snack choices and whatever cooking utensils you’ll need, for safety. Here are a few samples of snacks that I have tried:

Ants on a log is basically making snacks that resemble a line of ants marching on a log. Here, I used celery sticks, peanut butter and raisins. There’s a ton of variations. Try one!

Fruit inside of yogurt cups is another one of my favorites. I even like to dip a crunchy graham cracker into my yogurt. What might you add to spruce up your yogurt?
